哈囉~ hello everybody~ i can't believe i only have about two months of this amazing year! here's what i've been up to lately
so brunch is one of our go-to group activities and wow we found some good spots! my favorite place so far is ACME in the taipei performing arts center near jiantan station. they have a large selection of delicious food, drink and great views. i got a mimosa, a matcha latte (one of the best ever) and broccoli, egg, smoked salmon, pesto toast. this place is really popular and there's always a long line at opening.
more recently, another group of friends went to brunch around zhongshan area. that time, i got french toast and coffee. on the way, we ran into a turtle just chilling on the side of the street–only mildly concerning...

later that day...
and of course i took my friends in the new cohort to the soufflé pancake place haha.

also, a local i met awhile back invited me out to a picnic at the lawns near yuanshan station. she owns a curry place with friends. i need to go visit before i go. anyway, it got a little carried away with friends inviting friends and those friends inviting other friends so we ended up a large group. and ngl i was a little overwhelmed, but everyone was super nice and welcoming. after the picnic and checking out the market there, we headed out to check out the Nuit Blanche art event in shilin. it was the most crowded event i've seen here. news was saying that a lot of people traveled to come see it. unfortunately, the exhibition areas were a bit spread out and hard to find. with such a big group, interest was lost quickly and we just kind of wandered the city, and eventually ended up in a park playing games and eating mcdonald's ice cream–definitely chaotic night, but one to remember.
i'd have to say the most exciting thing in the past month was the spaceport music festival. i had been seeing ads for it in my socials for a long time but it was a bit pricy and i have already spent for music plans later in the next two months, so i was going to skip but i'm doing those solo, so when people invited me, it was hard to say no. and thank god i did end up going because some artists gained a fan and i got to see one of my favorite artists live! it was all GA, but somehow we got really close to barricade which i'd say is pretty good for my first true festival experience. also, i later found out the whole festival was supposedly net zero emissions which is cool though idk how they did it...
the day did not start out the greatest though. first, i misread the instructions to get there and we ended up walking a distance that a bus was supposed to take us 😅 then at bag check, they took my umbrella and through it in a bin labeled "trash". they were doing the same to everyone else's and they were kind of hurrying us through the line so i didn't question it. i was sad though because the umbrellas they sell here are not very sturdy imo. anyway, after getting over that, we went searching for food and they wouldn't let us pay with cash–we were only allowed to pay with our 悠遊卡EasyCard (transportation card). so hope was lost until one kind stranger pointed us to a card refill station. with that all sorted, we watched one set at the smaller stage before making our way to the main stage. despite some rain and stiff legs from standing forever, i had the best time and even better, i noticed a big group of people as we were exiting the venue and the security had dumped everyone's umbrellas on the ground for us to find. i'm not entirely sure why they do it that way, but i'm just saying i am so very attached to this specific umbrella now. 😂 after we beelined to the nearest 7-11 for dinner.
here's some names and clips if you're interested in the music...
~Patrick Brasca 派偉俊 Canadian-Taiwanese singer, songwriter (my favorite new find!!)
~SHOU 婁峻碩 Taiwanese singer, rapper
~OSN Taiwanese rapper, singer

~LAUV American singer, songwriter
~HyunA&DAWN Korean pop
the following weekend, i had plans to go to the world music festival which has music performances from groups all over the world and taiwan. unfortunately due to high winds and rains of typhoon Nesat, the day i was going to go was canceled. we did run into this cute festival at zhongshan with hand-drawn lanterns hung amongst the vendors though.
direct enrollment
the class is going well. the professor just lectures and there isn't opportunity to participate really. it's not even common to raise your hand or ask questions during lecture. most of the students don't pay too much attention as it's just a gen ed for them (since they're all medical) and they focus their energy to their major classes. to me, the coverage of information is a bit shallow and scattered and my classmate agrees. we both have taken media classes in the states but i still think this was a good class to choose because the background knowledge does help. if i was in a completely new subject, i think i'd be struggling. i am procrastinating on my midterm report which is due in three weeks, so i have time, but it's just a boring book report.

internship
internship hasn't changed much. now that the chatbot is launched, i just kind of do the monotonous work that no one else wants to do, like pack orders and mailers, cut out info cards, copy website info so that it's easier for the editors, etc. that being said, they do take me to events sometimes. this month we were tabling at conference put on by Nuli, a women's fitness app. that was good listening practice because there was a lot of background noise interference and i also got to practice listening to different people with different speaking styles during all of their speeches.
as i've said before, my internship is right around the corner from Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall and i've been going more lately with everything cooling down a bit and there being a boost in nature. lately there have been a bunch of cool birds and cute squirrels. you can almost always catch someone feeding them.
so dark when i get off work now....
