yeah second year let's do it

thesis & school

first week i set up a meeting with my thesis advisor and for some reason she wanted to change a bit of it. i also just have to change some just because of the nature of the data i will use. speaking of, i will have to do way more program coding than i thought😭

i then was getting to it but i was confused and went to another prof i have class with and has worked with data the same way i plan to and then told me the methodology doesn't need keywords in the way that i am doing content analysis. anyway, it's fine as of now. just a matter getting it approved by my actual advisor and of doing it haha.

this term i only have two classes: women in cinema and global communication & culture but somehow i have a very busy week with three work shifts and miscellaneous.

hungry ghost festival

my bf and i were invited to chaiyi by his roommate for one of the biggest festivals. there's no way we would have known about it without knowing someone who lives there. we went to the southern branch of the national palace museum, had famous turkey rice, saw his home (had a pet turtle), went to the festival and played mahjong until like 00:00. we also tried 蘿蔔糕 (turnip cake) which is a local breakfast. it's usually daikon radish and rice flour and ours had a fried egg on top. despite leaving saturday and getting back on sunday, it was still very fun and we got a lot of experiences!

hungry ghost is this month and apparently the ghosts of the hell can come visit (kinda like day of the dead). we went to minxiong just outside of chiayi city and the festival was called dashiye festival where we went to temple (see Guan yin Bodhisattva) and you pray for ancestors, your health etc. and then you enjoy the food at the three day night market that is tied to the festival. it’s definitely one of if not the biggest crowd i’ve ever been in.
